Good stuff. I keep saying that Brey does more with less than any other coach in America, and this team seems to be more of the same. One knock I have on him, though, is recruiting: why can’t we get top talent? Is it the academics? I’m sure its a factor but it would be great to have All-Americans like Demetrius Jackson year after year.

Nice article. Brey is first rate, glad he is our coach, extremely positive, great energy. We have 3 players who have had decisive roles in the last 2 elite 8 runs. Need I say more? Go Irish!

Kevin,
Been a fan for over 50 years & until the past 2 years and 2 Elite 8’s, I was not a Brey fan.
My complaint over the initial 14 Brey years was poor defense & lack of motion on offence.
Now he has sold me: there’s clear evidence that the players WANT to play defense & move like crazy without the ball for open looks. And These guys are fun to watch.
Now THIS is more like it. Congrats to Mike Brey winning over a 14 year critic with outstanding coaching.
Just one more blue chipper…

Great assessment of this team. I was most impressed by their win over Northwestern. Even when it looked like they would lose, you could sense a confidence and toughness. When the turnover and subsequent three-point play by Farrell happened, it almost felt like they knew it would. This team has holes — lack of size and experience in the post, for example — but if they can maintain their edge and confidence, it should be a very good season and a fun team to watch.

I like this team too, I think it has final 4 potential. Senior Leadership, Strong 3 point shooters and a Draymond Green type in Bonzie Colson!! plus Farrell is stepping up and becoming a good point guard that will push this team to a late March run!!!!

Mike Brey talks the talk and walks the walk. When he says “I like this group” I can sense his sincerity. It seems to me that he loves his players deep down. It does not seem artificial or put on. And in turn, it appears his players sense that and play hard for him so they don’t let him down. That’s the sign of a great coach. They create a winning culture. He learned from the best, his high school coach Morgan Wootten at DeMatha, another genuinely good man. Go Irish!
