A few years back, we had d-backs that would not or could not look back for the ball. Any type of play on a deep route resulted in a ND defender with his back to the ball and arms up. The result was a catch on the receiver’s part or a pass interference call. Last year, we had some rookies in the defensive backfield who turned on the ball and broke it up or made a pick. This season, after a year of being coached, they, once again, stick their arms up and keep their backs to the ball. Either they have gotten to slow in one season to keep up, or they are being coached to face the receiver. A d-back should cover with his back to the receiver and always looking for the ball. At least that is how I learned it.
