]]>Well ND’s offense lacks a true home-run threat: a guy that can take it to the house on any play. A Rocket Ismail or Reggie Bush kind of guy etc. I can’t think of any real home-run threats we have had so far in the Kelly era, and that has made it difficult for our offense to score points. You could argue Mike Floyd, but he was more of a possession receiver, probably due to inadequate QB play. T.J. Jones is kind of in the same boat this year.
I had hoped this year we could generate that kind of big play potential with one or two deep balls per game, but Kelly has been seemingly reluctant to let Rees air it out. I’m not talking about those 20 to 30 yard fade balls we seem to throw about every other play, but a real rain-maker pass that travels 50-60 yards in the air. And don’t say Rees can’t do it because he did throw a nice deep ball to Daniels against Purdue. It is so frustrating to see defenses sell out against the run, and us not even attempting to make them pay deep. Anybody else seen this?
]]>Yes, but, unfortunately, we always seem to play down to the level of our opponent. Therefore, the answer to Question 8 is at least 1 case of beer – in the first half.
