He has had his share of exciting moments and, no doubt, knows the offense better than anyone, but he is not a championship quarterback. Hopefully Malik will be ready by early October to come in and run the spread. Andrew Hendrix is a mystery, but will never start unless every other option gets injured. Keil saw that writing on the wall and split the scene. Golson really screwed the pooch concerning this season.

Kevin Hogan may not be Andrew Luck, but he is a great QB for a 2nd year starter, and I’m sure he’ll make strides this year as well. We’ll be facing him late, after he’s gained another year of playing experience. His father went to ND, and he was also interested in attending. But, because he did not fit the mold for a Kelly QB, I don’t believe he was offered, and to Stanford he went.

I think we’d be sitting pretty right about now if we’d added him to the roster.

He is smart, reads defenses well, and has the experience and confidence to exploit defensive schemes. If you haven’t noticed, he also seems to have the respect of his teammates. Without Reese last year, Notre Dame would have lost two or three games. He came in to relieve Golson and did so more than admirably. Forget the other qb’s. They can get time in mopup. That is important, but we have a smart, experienced quarterback who, although is sometimes frustrating to watch, has most of the tools to move this offense. Additionally, his experience will be invaluable with most of the players in “skill” positions having tremendous potential, but little in the way of proven performance.

I’d love to see Zaire do well enough in August to earn a platoon spot w/ Rees like we had early last year w/ Golson/Rees.
This would give opportunity for a 10 or even 11 win season and prepare us for a NC run in ’14.

I’m sure we will see Zaire and or Hendrix more than people are thinking. Without a change up wThere is zero chance against a good defense. If special teams don’t improve dramatically we will be be giving good offenses half a field to work with. This will spell suicide. Kelly for all the great things he has done has failed miserably in this department. Worst punting team and punt return team in D 1 football.

No disrespect to Andrew, but if Kelly and his staff felt he was a good option we would have seen more of him by now. I also don’t think it is a given that Zaire redshirts. My guess is he will be given a chance to win the backup role in fall camp and if he does he will see some playing time this year. I don’t think it is wise to go into 2014 without a QB on the roster who took some snaps in 2013.

Did you just say Tommy Rees reminds you of Clausen?? Well I hope you’re right because we would win a National Championship with Clausen leading this offense.

And don’t sell Coaches Kelly & Martin short, Hendrix isn’t in the conversation because the media/writers/bloggers haven’t included him, yet! I still expect Zaire to redshirt and compete with Golson in 2014 for starting duties. GO IRISH!!

He’s smart, strong-armed and physical. Can Tommy Rees be that much better or is it a question of Kelly having some sort of issue with him? It seems unrealistic to think Rees can play every snap in every game, so why isn’t Hendrix even in the QB conversation?
