That weekend I was in Ankara visiting a friend and when I got back to Yalova I asked someone who had won the game and was told that it was a tie. If memory serves the week after that Sports Illustrated came out with an issue that said “Tie Tie for Old Notre Dame” and the students (guys) at ND were not pleased.

The next weekend I was on midwatch and I listened to the SC game (51-0) on a short wave radio. Legend has it that after the game the SC coach said “I’ll never lose to that Armenian b…rd (Parseghian) again!”

And he didn’t. And in 1967 he showed up @ ND with a back named O.J. Simpson.
