Vannie I was the first to say your pick was incorrect and it almost was. Almost. Once again you were right and I was wrong.

The lads gotta be hurting after that, but take some measure of resolve that they can hang with the champs. Suspensions, retooled line, young defense, and all. There’s a lot of football left and although I said on Coffey’s post that the loser will not enter the playoff, if ND wins out I think they will. That’s a stiff “if” but based on what we’ve seen, certainly possible. This team has not peaked yet.

ND 7 was trying to make an inside move away from FSU 3, FSU 3 moved into ND 7 to cut him off. FSU 3 was not trying to move outside to cover ND 88. He was trying to jam ND 7’s inside move. ND 20 was jammed at the line by FSU 8.FSU 8’s first move was into ND 20. FSU 26 was head up on ND 88 at the snap, but was blocked by his own DB’s. The call was unquestionably wrong and should never have been made. There was no attempt to block by the ND receivers. All contact was made by the FSU DB’s. The ACC officials stole the game from ND.

They showed they are back and on the way up. These things are going to happen since, clearly, there are people who hate ND. Like Kelly said, what they have to do is win these things early.

However, he did say that it was a judgement call on part of the officials working the game. Well first of all he isn’t going to throw any of his officials under the bus for blowing a call that could and would decide the outcome of the game even though that saying it was a judgement call was his way of saying the officials blew it.
Officials should never be part of the equation in deciding the outcome of a game. That is why the players play the game. If that same play or something very similar is run in the first quarter and it is not penalized then it should not be penalized in the last quarter. That is inconsistency and that is what coaches don’t want. I’ve watched that play over and over and over and the only thing I see is Prosise and Fuller being engaged by the defense off the line. The defense is initiating the contact. How can you penalize the offense when the defense is initiating the contact. Prosise is being held and Fuller is stopped almost dead in his tracks when the defender puts out his arms.
Lastly, as the head of officiating stated “it was a judgement call”. Ok, waning seconds of a major college football game, #5 vs. #2 ball inside the 10 with seconds remaining and #5 going in to take the lead and win. A judgement call……….well any official who knows what he’s doing is only going to make that call if all 90,000 people in that stadium including the offical are 1000% sure there is a foul on that play. For as much as the offical said it was a penalty it could have been a no call too. I don’t think Jimbo Fisher would have been jumping up and down and 80,000 FSU fans screaming you missed a offensive pass interfernce call if no flag had been thrown. Sometimes what officals see isn’t always what happened.

That’s funny Bill because the same can go for fans who are not ND fans. The excuses why ND won was because of the refs or opponents or tv commentary. So that must mean you guys have a bingo board too for the excuses that ND won. As for ND fans complaining about games is no more than another fan and their team or in your own words….bottomless list of excuses! Deal with it yourself!!!!

Anyway I watched this play over and over again as I had it recorded. This is a designed play and the whole FS defense was not ready for the play. They were running around like they didn’t have a clue. When the wide outs went to run their routes, they were held. That’s it plain and simple. That should have been good touchdown and ND wins. Too bad the official was a local (FAN) and decided to throw a flag that couldn’t be reviewed just to control the outcome of the game. That’s ok though! We are proud, We are ND and we will be back to see FS in the play offs. I guarantee. Bring your best when we meet again in South Bend the next time they play. Too bad it won’t be for a while. That kind of chip holds strong and long.

How can it be pass interference when the DB has you tied up I a bear hug like Mike Coffey says? I watched that play over and over as

This was the worst call I’ve ever seen in my entire life. It was so blatantly obvious that Fl State blew the coverage, and not to mention engaged, locked- up however you want to call it with the ND receivers first. You can not say with positive certainty that ND was blocking the defenders, they had no time to even move before they were bumped at line of scrimmage. They were fighting to get off the ball, that is perfectly legal. The only reason they called this a penalty was because Jimbo Fisher planted it inside the refs mind at halftime like a little kid and the refs called it because they favored Fl state. Total BS and a disgrace to the game. Not one Espn announcer noticed the first TD and said OMG that’s an obvious pick play that wasn’t called, they simply said great TD ND! On the last play if you notice, they get all excited and say ND Touchdown! Not one mentions the “pick” until they actually see the flag, then they want to go back and review film of all the plays in the game to fit their agenda and say oh yea that first TD was an obvious pick. We have all seen nd games and Kelly runs similar plays like this. In his five years of coaching not 1 pick play has ever been called in 5 years! So either the refs have missed thousands of pick play calls against nd and just decided to get it right against florida st right? Or they decided to listen to the great jumbo Fisher. Either way it makes the refs look pathetic. We all know who really won that game.Notre dame dominated the stats. Notre dame is the better team. If that penalty would have been called for us I would have said wow that was horrible call. I’m being objective. Like I said worst call to ever decide a game in my lifetime

leaping over the line of scrimmage. The play was ruled a touchdown. Only problem was, he did not
have the ball. As he was making his leap, the ball was spinning around on the muddy ground in the
Missouri backfield. It was signaled a touchdown anyway. After the game, Ara was asked for his
reaction. He said, “…that man will never referee another game in Notre Dame Stadium..” Who was
that man? Well, it was Jerry Markbreit, then a Big 10 ref and Marketing VP at Playboy Enterprises.
He later went on to ref in the NFL for something like 25 years. Memo to Coach Kelly: make a list and
check it twice! I believe Dan Devine was the Missouri coach!

The FSU receiver deliberately held him in place so that the ref could throw the flag, just as planned.
