Mike Brey loves his guys and they play loose for him. Brey has a genuine love for Notre Dame, like Lou and Rock. He wears it on his sleeve. Brian Kelly possesses none of the above.

Like many of you, I have been converted to be a huge Bey fan one the past 5 years. they compete and the coach develops talent. they can play “up” and play on the road. Neither of these attributes can be said about the football coach who is in it far over his head and instead of developing talent he seems to get in the heads of his QBS and ruins them ( and then he goes and hires a QB coach who was the wost QB in ND history and the least mobile ever and makes him the coach of a running QB).
The great thing about Brey is that he doesn’t try to be someone he is not. he is just a fun coach to watch and root for.

Unlike the football team who cant win a national spotlight game, I hope the boys show up and play well, win or lose tonight although winning would really help when seeding comes along.

In reply to Elkhart Joe. I see your point, but I'm thinking this ended when we left the Big East and won the ACC title in our first year. I attribute our prior lack of tournament success to the brutality of Big East basketball; Brey was coaching finesse and 3-point shooting in a league dominated by enforcers.

TOTALLY AGREE! I was a Brey fan when I was there for Chris Thomas’ freshman year, and he’s a fantastic developer of talent. Can you imagine what would happen if Brey and Calipari switched players? Calipari would lose in the first round of the NIT, while Brey would go undefeated three years in a row AND graduate all his players.

As for football, we all saw what happens when you don’t develop your players’ talent and try to lean on schematic advantages.

It seems like the ND MBB seems to play well every year but poop out during the tournament. Hopefully they break that losing streak and win it all!!! Go Irish!!
